Overlanding is defined by Overland Journal as:
"Overlanding describes self-reliant adventure travel to remote destinations where the journey is the primary goal. ... While expedition is defined as a journey with a purpose, overlanding sees the journey as the purpose. Overlanding is about exploration, rather than conquering obstacles". Driving into the unknown, making yourself available to the what Is or what will be. These are some of the bench marks of of excellent spiritual adventuring.

Nomadic travel with everything you have to live and survive on your back ( maybe the vehicle's back) To humble yourself to your environment and to work to make home; your camp. a little less in touch with your environment than hiking ( unless you turn off the AC and roll the windows down) the motorized form of travel does offer the unique advantage of being able to travel more quickly into the "outback" than foot travel. Similar in spirit to the days of covered wagon travel, this can be a wonderful way of getting into touch with the sublime as well.
